Spring break

Hello all.

well, it's spring break again (as it comes every year) and I must admit, I'm a little down in the dumps. We all get sad from time to time, that much is true, for some of us it's more often than not and others less often than more, but it's inevitable nonetheless.

Maybe I'm sad because for once in a long while I actually have time to let my feelings run their course. At school I'm spread so thin that I think I rarely have time for myself and my emotions (of which there are many). I nap a lot at home. I sleep and don't do much else. But tomorrow, I think that I'll decide to get out of that habit. Maybe I'll go for a good long run tomorrow morning and then do some pilates and yoga and eat a salad and get back to my old self. maybe. Hopefully. Oh I so do hope so.

Today I bought a (semi)expensive camera. Kind of upset but happy about it. I hate buying expensive things, even when I need them. I need the camera for several reasons: 1)my old camera is below par quality/semi broken/takes AAbatteries (very expensive) 2) I want to take nice pictures of many things, most importantly my aprons 3) I want to document my trip this summer really well, and besides journals and sketchbooks, camera is really the only way. This camera takes HD video so I can make tv-sized films with it! that's exciting.

I bought the Nikon Coolpix p100 and I'm pretty pleased with it so far.

Also, in a side note, I've started a diet/workout regime that I hope I can stick to. I did it for a week, which is good! I lost quite a few pounds so far, which I'm excited about. My jeans are kind of loose on me now...ex-sigh-tement. (mostly because at some point I'm going to need new jeans. sigh.)

Well, I think that's about all for now. I just made some great cookies: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2007/02/valentines-treat-chocolate-cookies-two.html

Delish!

Good night all.

Oh My, I Have Some Grand News!

Hello all!

What a grand day! I received an email from the Japanese study abroad program I applied to saying that I've been accepted! I'm so so so very excited! This is probably the one thing I've wanted to do for the longest time, so this is a real treeattt.

What does this mean now? I book a flight, get a physical from the doctor, and wait until June! oh boy oh boy oh boy.

In Japan it's customary to bring gifts to your hosts, and if you come from another country you should bring a gift that is only in that country. I feel like I'll end up making a lil' apron for a host mom, don't know what for a host dad.

anyhow, I have lots of homework to do (math test tomorrow :( ) so got to study study study!

私は とても うれしい です!

oh, excitement.

I applied to my summer program in Japan, no word back yet, but hopefully I'll find myself in Tokyo all summer!

In the meantime, I've set this image as my desktop so that I can dream about 東京 (or Tokyo) aaaaaaallllll day.
hmm...come to think about it, I'm not even sure if this image is a lil map for tokyo, but it sure does seem to be with that Mt.Fuji-esque illustration there.

Did you know that Mount Fuji is called "Fuji-san" in Japanese? That's like saying Mr./Ms. Fuji. I wish that we did that here, like, Ms. Blue Ridge, or Mr. old faithful (yes, he's a boy, as decreed by me).

Fuji-san (or 富士山 in Japanese, I know the second and last characters mean earth and mountain respectively) is a great national landmark in Japan, and has been for quite some time.

The most popular historical art on Fuji-san is Ando Hiroshige's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" which is a series of woodblock prints made during the mid 1800's.

Of course the one we're all familiar with is one: (see Fuji-san? I usually get so intimidated by that huge wave that I forget the little mountain.)

You can see the whole collection here. I love how they look at different aspects of Japanese life, traditions, and seasons. I'm excited to study these in History of Communication Arts.

Well, ANYHOW...

To keep me on my optimistic streak, here is a little image I found on, I'm pretty sure, Design*Sponge. Which is a terribly cute website. I like this poster because it reminds me that even when I don't feel so optimistic, I probably am.
From this artist here.

Well, I'm off to Epshteyn's class (oooh boy). I'm dreading it, but once I get there I know that I'll be ok. We're starting a new drawing today, so hopefully I won't mess stuff up too bad.

Also, I'm working on an Etsy.com shop to sell aprons on. I've got to start networking like crazy and get my stuff together to make many people happy via aprons.

Good day!

Things that would be nice to have around/ dream home.

Ooh, what a beaut! I'd love to have a funky cute classic lil typewriter around.

When can I have my own dream house? Probably in about 30-40 years. Sigh....

NEW YEAR NEW HAPPENING NEW BLOG MAKEOVER

Hello all who, prior to now, may have feared me dead or lost,

I'm back into the swing of things, I think. I'm feeling pretty good, listening to some good music, doing some good stuff, done with my homework, the temp was like 6o deg today. It's been nice. Today anyhow.

Well, that paragraph before may have been an overstatement. I may not be doing so well. I'm tired all the time (fall asleep eating tired), over worked, and finding it harder to spend time alone in my head. Sigh, I suppose this is the way of things at times. I've heard it only gets tougher. I gotta buck up.

But anyhow! There have been some exciting things going on. Let's see...

Well, last semester (during which very little blogging was achieved) I learned a lot about drawing, photoshop, and most bestly: TYPOGRAPHY. oh, how I love it. So great.

This semester I'm learning even more! The great Robert Meganck is schooling me in the ways of Design (as he did with the ways of Typography), I'm taking a printmaking class (just finished my first Etching portfolio, pictures to come soon), a history class (same one as last semester since there are two parts) and (UGH) the figure drawing class with none other than Albert Epshteyn. He's tough, and will yell at you, but I can tell he's just a sweetie inside. I suspect I have much to learn from him.

In addition to classes I have a lot on my plate. I'm still working as a tour guide for the school of the arts, which pays alright. I'm pledging an arts fraternity this friday (Which I NEVER thought I'd do...), trying to schedule volunteering at a local gallery, and most importantly and amazingly: Applying to a study abroad program in TOKYO JAPAN for the summer. Ohmygosh.

I've got so much to do, which is good, but also stressful. Sometimes I just want to cuddle up and watch TV. But I can't do that often, and I guess that's ok. Or, I watch it when I'm posing for the roomie hannah (she's in the same figure drawing class as me, so we do our homework together.)

Oh my! I almost forgot, I'm also sewing lotsa aprons! This is my new endeavor. Hopefully these will sell like hotcakes. Hopefully...sigh.

Drumroll Please!

CUUUTE right?!?!?!

Now I have to come up with a cutesy name for them. I was thinking "Aprons Ahoy" but that seems too specific. What if I want to branch out? We'll see where the creative spirit takes me.

But for now, goodnight. I have an essay to write.
